TYPE OF THE 20TH CENTURY

TYPE OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Type of the 20th century is an online exposition based on the book 20th Century Type by Lewis Blackwell. The project was developed by Maria Josè Hernandez Cos and me during the exchange semester at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd, for the course of Transmedial Design under the supervision of the Prof. Daniel Utz.
The idea is to give the possibility to explore the contenute of the book in different ways, just like having different index to consult. The three points of view we chose are timeline, typefacesand designers. The website is structured as a single long page divided into the three sections plus a homepage and a footer. The exposition is time-based and it is possible to zoom in and out each section, discovering different actions on each one.
The timeline section has the aim to introduce to the historical period we are interested in, giving informations about art movements, historical facts and innovations. There are different marks for each element in the section menu, by clicking one it is possible to hide the rest.

The type cloud is composed by all the typefaces designed in the 20th century, the glyphs are changing but we can stop it through the controller. We can also choose the glyph we are interested in or select if we want to visualise just serif, sans-serif o fantasy fonts. Once we click on a gliph it pops up the specimen of the typeface selected.
In the designer section each coloured strip hides the biography and works of a designer, by clicking on it we open the full description.
Thank you!
